The 2026 NFL Season Promo Buyer’s Calendar: Lead Times, Deadlines & Rush Options (Preseason to Super Bowl LXI)

“If you’re waiting for the coin toss to place your order, you’re already too late. Here is your month-by-month survival guide for NFL custom merchandise sourcing.”

The NFL’s 107th season opens on Wednesday, September 9, when the defending Super Bowl LX champion Seattle Seahawks host the New England Patriots at Lumen Field — a rematch of last season’s championship game and the league’s first Wednesday opener since 2012.

The season then runs through Thanksgiving, a Christmas Day tripleheader, the playoffs in January, and ends with Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 14, 2027 — the first Super Bowl ever played on Valentine’s Day.

For teams, sponsors, agencies, and fan-experience buyers, every one of those dates is also a promotional deadline. And because custom merchandise takes weeks to produce and weeks to ship, the buying calendar runs months ahead of the game calendar.

Here is the 2026-27 NFL promo buyer’s calendar, from preseason to the Super Bowl.

1. The Golden Rule: Every Custom Order Has a Lead Time

Before we walk through the season, it helps to agree on the math.

A typical custom promotional order from an overseas supplier includes:

  • Artwork confirmation: 2-5 days
  • Production: 2-4 weeks for simple products (rally flags, towels, wristbands, drawstring bags), 5-8 weeks for complex ones (embroidered caps, puffy blankets, drinkware, multi-item gift boxes)
  • Quality control and packing: 3-7 days
  • Sea freight from Asia to the U.S.: 4-6 weeks
  • Air freight: 5-10 days
  • Express courier: 3-5 days

Add a small buffer for customs clearance and local delivery, and a “normal” order placed on sea freight needs roughly 10-12 weeks from order to arrival. That is why the smartest buyers treat this calendar as a countdown, not a suggestion.

2. Right Now (Mid-August): The Regular-Season Kickoff Rush

The season opens September 9. If you have not ordered yet, you are officially in the rush window — but you are not out of options.

For the kickoff game and the first weeks of the season, focus on products that are fast to produce and lightweight to ship:

  • Hand rally flags
  • Rally towels
  • Wristbands and captain armbands
  • Drawstring bags
  • Caps
  • Super hero capes
  • Mini banners

These items have no molds, simple printing, and high production capacity. Ordered this week, they can still fly out in time for Week 1.

To move fast, have these details ready:

  • Final artwork in vector format (AI, EPS, PDF)
  • Pantone or brand colors
  • Exact quantity and pack-out instructions
  • Delivery address and receiving hours
  • Target arrival date — not the game date

If your event is on September 13 and you want the goods on September 10, tell your supplier the arrival date, not the game date. The supplier should build the plan backward from arrival.

3. September: Lock In Thanksgiving and Christmas Orders

September is the busiest procurement month of the season, because it is the last sea-freight window for the holiday slate.

Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26) features three games: Bears at Lions, Eagles at Cowboys, and Chiefs at Bills. Christmas Day (Friday, December 25) is a tripleheader too: Packers at Bears, Bills at Broncos, and Rams at Seahawks.

Both holidays are also massive watch-party moments. Fans gather at home, in bars, and at stadiums — which makes them ideal for:

  • Knitted beanies and winter caps
  • Scarves and neck gaiters
  • Throw blankets
  • Can koozies and bottle coolers
  • Holiday stockings and Santa hats
  • Custom tote bags for gifting

Order window: place sea-freight orders by mid-to-late September for late-November arrival, and by early October for Christmas arrival.

4. October: Playoff Planning and the Last Sea-Freight Window for the Super Bowl

The playoffs begin in January, and Super Bowl LXI is February 14. October is the month when serious playoff buyers commit.

If you want playoff giveaways and Super Bowl watch-party merchandise on the water (and not on a plane), October is your last realistic sea-freight month.

Popular October commitments:

  • Playoff rally towel sets (one per game, or a “run” series)
  • Hand rally flags in team colors
  • Fan gift boxes for season ticket members
  • Puffy blankets and pillows for cold-weather markets
  • Caps and beanies with playoff branding
  • Drinkware sets for watch parties

If your team’s playoff picture is uncertain, plan for flexibility: neutral packaging, generic “postseason” wording, or a two-version print strategy (approved within your licensing terms) so you are ready either way.

5. November: Thanksgiving Games, International Matchups, and the Air-Freight Zone

November is when the season gets loud. The Thanksgiving slate (Lions, Cowboys, Chiefs-Bills) is the biggest giveaway cluster of the regular season, and orders for it should already be in production.

Two international games are worth noting for brands with European fans: Bengals vs. Falcons in Madrid (November 8) and Patriots vs. Lions in Munich (November 15). If you are activating around either market, order early — international events add extra customs steps.

After Thanksgiving, sea freight is no longer realistic for any remaining 2026 dates. From here on, assume air freight or express for everything.

November is also the moment to confirm Super Bowl orders with the factory. Air-freighted Super Bowl inventory ordered in November can still arrive in time.

6. December: The Holiday Slate and Last-Minute Super Bowl Air

December is the holiday home stretch: the Christmas Eve game (Texans at Eagles), the Christmas Day tripleheader, and the final regular-season weeks that decide the playoff bracket.

For buyers, December is the air-freight zone. Expect higher freight costs and tighter capacity — book space early, and confirm receiving windows with your venue or fulfillment center.

What still works in December:

  • Express-delivered small orders (5,000-20,000 units)
  • Watch-party kits: koozies, towels, flags, snack sets
  • Holiday-branded items that double as gifts
  • Championship-adjacent products for teams already clinched (again, within your licensing terms)

7. January: Playoffs — Speed Is Everything

Wild-card weekend kicks off in January, followed by the divisional round and the conference championships. By now, every order is a rush order.

For playoff speed, choose products your supplier can produce in volume with available materials:

  • Rally towels — the stadium classic
  • Hand rally flags
  • Wristbands
  • Drawstring bags
  • Temporary tattoo sleeves for fan face-and-arm decor

Two practical tips:

  • Ask about material stock before you choose a product. A product made from in-stock fabric is weeks faster than one that requires a material order.
  • Approve the digital proof within 24 hours. Every day of approval delay is a day of production lost.

8. February: Super Bowl LXI — The Finale

Super Bowl LXI takes place Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California — the first Valentine’s Day Super Bowl in league history.

Even teams that do not reach the game benefit from Super Bowl weekend, because watch parties happen everywhere. Popular late-cycle items include:

  • Viewing-party kits (towel + koozie + flag bundles)
  • Themed koozies and bottle coolers
  • Puffy blankets for couch season
  • Custom hats and beanies for the big day

For winners and hosts: pre-planned championship designs, printed after the game, can be delivered within days when the artwork and materials were pre-approved. Ask your supplier about this “postgame ready” workflow before the game, not after.

10. Five Ways to Buy Time When You Are Already Late

  1. Choose fast products. No molds, no complex sewing, in-stock fabrics — flags, towels, wristbands, and drawstring bags are the speed demons of the industry.
  2. Send vector artwork on day one. AI, EPS, or PDF files with Pantone colors save days of back-and-forth.
  3. Ask about capacity, not just price. A low quote means nothing if the factory cannot finish 100,000 units before the shipping cutoff.
  4. Split the order. Ship the first batch by air for the event date, and the rest by sea for post-event use. One order, two lanes.
  5. Give your supplier the arrival date. “Arrive by September 10” is a much better brief than “game is September 13.”
